How do I take a passport photo with Verifoto?

1. Open Verifoto and pick your document type (Nigeria Passport, UK Passport, etc.).
2. Tap Take photo. The app guides you with a live face oval and voice prompts.
3. When everything is right — pose, lighting, framing — the app auto-snaps. No need to press a button.
4. On the Review screen, tap Auto-fix and export to apply white background, correct crop, and the right pixel size.
5. Save the finished photo to your gallery or share it directly to your passport upload portal.

My photo failed the auto-snap or stays on "Position your face"

Verifoto waits until every compliance check is green before snapping. Common reasons it stalls:

• Light is too dim or one-sided. Face a window in daylight; avoid a single side lamp.
• Head tilted up or down. Hold the phone at eye level and look straight at the camera.
• You're smiling, or eyes are closed. Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open.
• You're too close or too far. The oval should frame your head and a bit of shoulder.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) portal rejected my photo. What now?

Verifoto is calibrated against the live NIS checker, but no app can guarantee acceptance for every subject in every lighting condition. If NIS rejects yours:

• "Image needs proper light" or "distracting shadows" — retake in better, evenly-distributed front light (face a window in daylight; avoid overhead or side lamps). Lighting at capture is the single biggest factor.
• "Face tilted" — keep your head perfectly level, look directly at the camera lens, chin neither raised nor lowered.
• "Not according to the guidelines" — usually means the image looks over-processed or the spec doesn't match. Re-take the photo in better light and re-export.

If it still fails after a good retake, email us with the rejection message — we calibrate continuously and your case helps.

Will Verifoto upload my photo to any server?

No. Verifoto processes every photo entirely on your phone. We do not operate any backend service for the app. Your photos never leave your device unless you share them.

Which passport and ID types does Verifoto support?

The current version is calibrated for:

• Nigerian Passport (NIS portal compliant)
• UK Passport
• Generic ICAO specification (works for many other countries' photo requirements)

If a specific country or document type is missing, email us — we add new specifications regularly.

The back camera shows a black preview

Tap the Switch Camera icon (top right of the capture screen) once more to toggle back to the front camera, then try the switch again. This was a fixed issue in an earlier build — if you're on the latest version of Verifoto and it still happens, please email us with your device model so we can look into it.

Do I need an account to use Verifoto?

No. Verifoto has no sign-up, no sign-in, no account. Install and use immediately.

Is Verifoto free?

Yes, the current version is free to use with no ads. A future version will offer token packs for users who need many photos (e.g. families) — the free single-use experience will remain.
